About Cristina Grigorescu
The painter who started to pursue her love for painting after retirement
Cristina Maria Grigorescu was born in Bucharest, Romania in 1953. Since early childhood, Cristina could be seen doodling. However, she only pursued her passion after retiring as the CEO and founder of an entrepreneurial company in 2013. She attended various watercolour masterclasses with famous Romanian artists and painters, and eventually pursued and completed her formal artistic education, with a focus on painting and decorative arts.
Throughout her artistic journey, she has experimented with many techniques, trying to work out which ones help her address her subjects, which can often be found in everyday life. While using watercolours transport her in the world of pastels, landscapes and vague silhouettes, over the last few years she has grown to enjoy acrylics, the new energy turning the brush strokes into a passionate universe where she can find her own voice, where she can express freely her ideas and delicate dreams.
Every October, she opens her home for two weeks to host “Kompus” – an exhibition she developed and launched along with her colleagues, featuring the works of artists who graduated from the same department of the Bucharest National University of Arts.
When she is not in her workshop, she loves spending time with her grandkids, and especially loves teaching them about art and colours.
